Why is that puppy so Much More/Less than the other one ???
When deciding price at True Shot, a great deal of consideration goes into the cost of each puppy.
We consider factors such as:
If you ever have a question about the price of a puppy, feel free to ask! I post my prices publicly because I feel they are reasonable. If you disagree, you're always welcome to offer me a different amount.
We consider factors such as:
- Temperament. Is the puppy outgoing? Reserved? Get along well with other pets/strangers/kids? Does he adapt to new situations well? Etc. Just because the puppy you chose is less expensive, does not mean his/her temperament is "bad", just not what I want for the show ring.
- Age. I often hold puppies back to evaluate their show potential as they age. If I have older puppies to sell, they are priced lower than puppies being sold at weaning age to find them homes quickly before I become more attached to them than I already am.
- Size. Bigger puppies are harder to sell than smaller on average, and so are often priced lower to find them homes before they grow to old to transition to a new home as easily.
- Color. Harder to find colors/patterns/etc. Typically cost more.
- Sex. Girls cost more than boys!
- Parents. Even when you're just looking for a pet, I am looking at it from a show perspective, and seeing the time and money that was spent turning that puppy's parents into Champions. Pedigree has a hand to play when pricing a puppy. Even though you may not be interested in ever breeding your puppy, that doesn't take away from the fact that their worth is still that of a high quality puppy. When people say "but I only want him for a pet!" ... take a sports car. If you tell the dealer you only want to drive it to work, should they lower the price? If you want a high quality, breed standard pet, who's parents have been tested free of genetic disorders, you will end up paying more for it.
- Coat type. Longcoats cost more than smoothcoats.
- My attachment! Oftentimes I am not 100% sure I want to let a puppy go. If I'm on the fence, I will often list them much higher than their siblings because they are worth that amount to me and I am in no hurry to see them go. I figure if someone else is willing to pay a high price for them, they must want them as badly as I do :)
