Stud Procedures at True Shot
I am no longer offering my dogs to outside stud. I will, however, leave this article up for those wishing to read it.
When planning to breed your female to a stud, there are several factors to consider. The most paramount in this instance is when she begins her estrus cycle, the period of her heat when she is receptive to mating with a male. Introducing your female to the stud during this time is essential to a successful breeding, and the best judge of this is not always the stud. Mojito is an experienced stud and is very receptive to the cycle of your female. However, he is not really concerned with optimum timing... that decision is largely in the hands of your female. If she is not receptive to the stud there is little that can be done about that. I can assure you the stud will do his best to do his job, but your female may not be in a cooperative mood.
That said, breeding to a stud is best achieved with thorough planning, before your female enters heat, to ensure the two are brought together at the best possible time. I always insist on the female being brought to our location for the mating to occur. I am sorry if you are uncomfortable with bringing your dog into unfamiliar territory, there are no exceptions to this rule. You are welcome to stay on site with your dog during her time on site to supervise the mating. Should a mating not occur during your first visit, and I feel it is because she is not ready, we will schedule another meeting at a more appropriate time. If I feel at any time that your female has already progressed past the period of time in her cycle that she is receptive to a male's advances, I will inform you of this and you owe me nothing. You will only be charged a stud fee if a tie occurs. I do not guarantee your female will become pregnant. I cannot assume responsibility for the health of your female, or ability to successfully reproduce, and other multiple conditions that may affect her ability to conceive.
The next step is completing a stud service contract. This is a document designed to protect both true shot chihuahuas and yourself from any misunderstandings or later legal action. Once we have settled the contract, your dog is introduced to the stud in an outdoor round pen (weather permitting), that allows us to easily observe without intruding. Should the weather cause issues or if the pairing calls for an assisted coupling we also have indoor facilities. The time for a stud to complete his duty can be anywhere from 5 mins to several hours. Sometimes when a stud first meets a female he is so excited he needs time to calm down before his aim becomes accurate... however usually he's very professional. If a tie has not occurred within 2 hours, we will end the session and try again in 3 days to 1 week's time, when your female will hopefully be more ready to receive a male. If your female is receptive and you would like her to, we allow females to stay over in our indoor facility. If we do not witness a tie during your first session, and we are certain she is ready to be bred, I would recommend leaving your female overnight. The absolute most we will breed a stud is once every 7 days to assure high sperm count and optimum conception rates. That means if another female is meeting with that stud already during the time yours is in heat, you will miss out on pups from Bullet for this heat.
